Joga – A Workout for the Mind and Body of the Athlete

Dave.Ferguson Dave Ferguson

Athletes and active individuals are always looking for ways to become more competitive in their sport and want to stay injury free. Joga is growing in popularity as a workout that responds to the specific demands of athletes, who are both results and achievement oriented individuals.

An athletic based style of yoga, Joga incorporates a unique blend of postures, breathing techniques, and relaxation tools to find balance in strength and flexibility, improve breath control and recovery, and maintain a calm mind in sport and in life.

It focuses on the mechanics and movements of any particular sport and results in a targeted yoga program that enhances athletic performance for any specific discipline. Athletes want to feel and see results while also understanding the reason behind what they are doing.

Joga helps athletes to feel stronger, more flexible and re-energized as well as provides them with all the other physiological and psychological benefits of yoga.

Organizations such as the Calgary Stampeders, Toronto Argonauts and the Olympic Men’s Beach Volleyball team have incorporated Joga into their training. Jana Webb developed the workout which speaks to the athletic mind and body. Incorporating a unique blend of postures and breathing techniques, Joga has also become part of Jana’s offerings to both NHL and OHL players during off-season.

We’ll learn more about the program and what it does in terms of improving performance for athletes and preventing injury. We’ll also find out about the creation of jobs through the Joga Teacher training program for therapists, health practitioners and others who share the same love of sports.
